Chapelstone Pure Rubber Mats are made from very high quality unyielding pure
rubber which, in itself, does not harbour bacteria. There are no impurities
in these mats and they have full recovery characteristics. This means there
are no regrind / reconstituted materials and they are extremely flexible.
The top is finished with a very effective ‘cobbled’ anti slip
surface and the underside is grooved to allow drainage, where required. The
choice of bedding used with the mats will determine whether drainage is needed
and also govern the frequency with which cleaning beneath them is required – we
recommend Aquamax high
absorbency bedding.

PURE RUBBER MATS
This type of mat will withstand more wear than most alternatives, many
mats widely touted as been rubber are either of a granular, recycled
or filled
rubber origin, these types of mats each have their own inherent problems
in stable situations whilst the chapelstone mats are pure rubber,
totally impervious and guaranteed for 10 years in all areas except for
horsewalkers.
Rubber
mats can be bonded and the joints sealed.
These stable mats are heavyweight quality and weigh around 80 lbs. They measure
approximately 6ft x 4ft x 16mm thick. This thickness allows the mats to be
suitable for long term wear as well as larger horses.
- Thermally efficient – increases floor temperature.
- Protection for Hocks / Knees – reduces risk of damage / capping.
- Anti-slip – increases safety as horses rise and go down.
- Economical – reduces amount of bedding needed.
- Speeds up recovery – increases comfort for ‘box rest’ /
confined animals.
- Provides ‘give’ underfoot – reduces
strain on tendons / joints etc.
- Horses rest warmer – increases overnight body temperature.
- Time saving - reduces time and effort spent mucking
out.
Do's |
Dont's |
| Always choose solid, genuine new rubber.
Mats made from composite or regrind materials may be thicker, but not
necessarily
better. They are
often less ‘thermally efficient’ and durable |
Confuse ‘solid’, with hard and uncomfortable. Think like
a horse – consider the kind of surface on which they naturally choose
to lie. They don’t ‘fluff up’ grass or pick a stone free
area – a solid rubber mat equals a feather bed to a horse. |
| Make sure your mats are carefully fitted
(preferably by a professional), considering where the ‘joins’ are
can make quite a difference. |
Pick porous / semi porous mats – who
wants the smell of soaked up, stale urine in their stable? |
| Use a high absorbency bedding. This will keep the mat surface dry and
fresh, provide a pleasant resting area for your horse and reduce the need
for washing under the mats. |
Use metal forks to muck out. Plastic works
really well and cannot damage the mat surface, however brutal you may
be! |
| Check that your chosen mat can be disinfected
(should you feel the need) with any basic type of disinfectant – it should not be necessary
to have to buy expensive ‘specialist’ fluids. |
Use solvent based chemicals / cleaners on your mats. Solvents can damage
the molecular structure of rubber and may harm your mats. |
| Ask lots of questions. A genuine supplier will be happy to answer your
queries and have a knowledgeable person to give you good advice. |
Always choose the ‘cheapest’ option – it
may not be as good as it sounds and could cost you in the end. |
| Make sure the price includes all the cost – VAT,
delivery and fitting can dramatically increase the original price quoted. |
Choose mats which are made for ‘other’ animals – get
durable heavyweight horse mats. |
| Make sure your mats carry a guarantee. |
Assume how many mats you will need to cover the area required (always
measure the area properly). |
